Chest and Storage Room
The main section of the castle on the SMP is going to be my storage and treasure room. For now I will keep the crafting tools (crafting table, stone cutter, anvil) in the center of the main room. I have some ideas for how to set them up but I want to see how the room comes together with the storage first.
First floor – Main Chest Room and Crafting Area
The main room is open to the ceiling of the castle with a second level walkway going around the room. I stuck with deepslate variants for the stone walkway and used dark oak fencing for the supports and rails.
The first floor is where I will keep my main storage with the most commonly used blocks & items. I’m a hoarder so the longer I play on a Minecraft world the more storage I need so I like to setup a pretty large storage room early on.
You can fit more chests by stacking them directly on top of each other and it looks completely fine but I have started to space them out more in my builds. I like the supported look and I honestly haven’t noticed that much of an inconvenience with having the chests more spread out. Plus this allows more of the mangrove wood to show on the interior between the chests. Stairs, trapdoors, or slabs work well as supports for the chests and still allow the lid to open. For this build I used dark oak slabs since they go well with the spruce logs.
Second Floor – Bulk Storage Area
The second level of the castle will have my bulk storage chests and is setup the same as the first floor with the chests between the main supports. Up here I will keep the larger quantities of blocks that I don’t want to store in the first floor chest room such as basic stones and dirt. Later on I may add a silo storage area with shulker box loaders/unloaders but that will be awhile. Here’s a silo design we did on the Mansion world that I still like using.
While working on the second floor I detailed more around the spiral staircases and made an entry to the battlements. The campfires in the top of the towers add the smoke and the light also brightens the wall blocks along the top edges.
Castle Ceiling Design
To finish out the interior area the ceiling needed more detail. The center section is raised with andesite wall blocks supporting the upper section. By using slabs for the ceiling, stairs for the edge, and the wall blocks for the surround light will pass through all of them. This makes the interior brighter in the day without torches everywhere and it makes the exterior brighter at night.
