Finishing the Rail Tunnels

Time to update the rail tunnels. Running from our Iron Farm to the Mansion and then on out to the Taiga village we have had just a normal 2×3 block tunnel with the natural stone walls. While it’s nothing special it has worked great since the early start of this world. Safe travel and faster than walking at least. After adding a branch to go to the Geode display (Geode Finished) I decided it was time to update the walls of the tunnel. At almost 1700 blocks long, it’s going to be done it stages.

Rail Tunnel Layout

First up is to switch the layout around. The tunnel was originally just the 2 block wide by 3 block tall with the rail along one side. After using soul sand and the soul speed boots I wanted to add a strip beside the rail for when we are walking (or when Jaxson uses his bow to know me out of a cart). After testing I found that the soul speed still works under the rails. So the new layout is a 3×3 tunnel, with the rail on soul sand in the center. Sections of the walls were dug back to 5 blocks wide to give it more depth and make the columns stand out.

Lighting

Just like on my other builds I wanted to conceal the lighting. Lights are hidden under the slabs at the sides and also in the ceiling on top of the stair blocks.

Completed Rail Tunnel

I use more powered rail than needed but it makes it easy to send empty carts back or loaded carts with chests without them getting hung up. For this I use 3 powered rails after every 10-12 normal rails with a strip of 5 at stopping points to launch faster.

Where the tunnel passed under the fish pool at the front of the Mansion we decided to add a glass ceiling to view the fish since the new taller tunnel was only 1 block below the bottom of the pool. The combination of the new 1.17 blocks worked out even better than I thought they would, looking forward to another build with them pretty soon.
