Finishing the Piglin Trading and Bartering Hall

Piglin Trading Halls

Minecraft Piglin trading (or bartering) is a great way to get several different drops and materials. While it does take quite a bit of gold, it produces a ton of great items. I had built the barebones of this one in our Mansion Survival world and had it running for awhile and after a twitter poll finally got the motivation to finish it up.

Design and Layout

We are building this as an automatic trading hall with 6 piglins. More piglins would work even faster (and take more gold) but even with 2 or 3 it can produce a ton of materials. We are using the design from Wattles, video below, for triggering the gold dispenser when the piglin drops an item. There are screenshots showing how it is built but I would suggest watching his video for a better explanation.

The hall is built right off our Nether Hub opposite of the storage area. I considered running a hopper line over to the main storage area but after looking at it I would have to restructure all of the chests. So I decided to stick with a separate item sorter with shulker box loading so the items can be taken straight to a build area or back to our Mansion base.

Testing

Since my kids will also be wanting to use the bartering hall I wanted to make it as easy as possible to use. I built out a piglin cell and set it up with a lever and dispenser and let them run it several times to see if there were any issues. Besides some accidentally broken glass and the dispenser running out occasionally it worked perfect.

Rough but functional testing cell.

Based on this I decided to elevate the piglin cells some and build them into the back wall. To help it run longer before needing a refill I decided to use a chest minecart running above the cells to distribute gold rather than loading the individual dispensers.

Item Sorter

We’ve been having issues with the item sorter at the witch farm backing up and breaking so I checked out more designs to prevent that. Piglin bartering will produce even more items and with the potions, water bottles, and boots there is even more of a chance for it to back up. Silent Whisperer had a new design out that is simple to build and if any chest fills completely it allows the items to continue down to an overflow chest instead of breaking the rest of the system. The video for the design is below.

Finished Hall and Decorating

With the design figured out I started building. With all of the lava I did most of this when the kids weren’t on the server. As much fun as it is to build with them the combination of the nether, lava, and my son was a little distracting. To keep it as a fun family build I did the clearing of the area and setup the main walls, then we did the details, decorating, and glass floor together. My daughter loves banners so we played around with a few different designs before finding a simple snout worked out perfect. With the shulkerboxes set in place the full hall is done and ready to roll.

Operation

To run the farm now all we have to do is flip the right lever and gold will be dispensed to all 6 piglins. When they drop their item it triggers the dispenser to dispense more. Occasionally a piglin will move to the edge of the block and the gold falls all the way to the hopper, triggering the next gold ingot to drop. Usually this doesn’t hurt anything and the gold goes to the overflow chest. If for some reason the system does lock up just turning it off and back on gets everything going again. The lever on the left starts the chest minecart to refill the piglin cells dispensers. It can be refilled through the trap door or from the service area down the hall.
