Exploring the Surrounding Area – Villages and Ravine (P4)

Now that we have the first stage of our base established and the farm going, we are heading out to explore the surroundings. There are several villages near the Woodland Mansion that we have not checked out to yet. The nearby Zombie Village is at the top of the list since there are 3 Blacksmith houses there. Now that we have better equipment, we can take it on. We will still go in the daytime until we get a few more upgrades.

We scored 3 Diamonds and several iron tools, swords, and armor from the Blacksmiths shops in the zombie village. That works perfect and gives us a Diamond pickax. We’ll save it until we find some obsidian for an enchantment table and to fix up the broken Nether portal.

Circling around the base we went to the Desert village next. It seemed abandoned at first but then we spotted a few villagers coming out. I’m not sure why but there were only 3 villagers in the whole place. We’ll check on them again later and see if they have begun to repopulate.

Plains Village next to Swamp

Plains/Swamp Village

The third village is a Plains village right on the border of the swamp with the witch’s hut. Savannah loved this one because one house generated inside the swamp with a swamp villager. This is the first world we’ve played together on that had a swamp villager. I think we will update this one later and build out the section in the swamp biome more.

Large Ravine

Large Ravine between villages

On our way over towards the Taiga mountain we went past a large ravine. We were running out of daylight, but I spotted an exposed Dungeon on the side of the ravine and several steep caves that could give us an easy path down. I learned the lesson on the last world that exploring a ravine with a 5 year old is not very easy. I’ll come back to this one later and make sure we have a decent path down that doesn’t drop him right into the lava.

Taiga Village

Taiga Village

The Taiga village is long and narrow. It will be difficult to wall it off later so we may tear down a few of the houses at the back of the village and bring them forward. The Taiga biome and villages have always been a favorite of ours, so we are already working on some plans for it. The snowy mountains nearby will be perfect for an ice farm and maybe a cool lookout tower. Wolves were everywhere and we found some bones in the chests so Savannah got her first pet. I’ll expand in a Minecraft Parent’s tip soon, but unfortunately the wolf didn’t make it back to the Mansion. Just remember, if another player “accidentally” hits a player with a tamed wolf, it will start attacking…

Interesting Finds

Along the trip we found a few interesting features like this floating island and dark oak hill with a waterfall. We haven’t made any plans for these yet but we may soon. Have a good idea for any of them?

Next we are starting the mine and then hopefully headed to the Nether, thanks for stopping by!
