Keep Progress
After building so many walls and exterior portions of the Keep I’d like to move to the interior. Switching build types helps to keep from burning out on a project and keeps the excitement for the build up. To begin the interior we are going to tackle the entry way into the Keep and the main hall.
Front Walkway and Stairs
I have planned an arching wood ceiling with support beams along the front walkway and the raised dais in the rear so I start with setting the spruce logs as columns and building out the front walkway. Then I can set the rear columns and have the spacing for the arching ceiling.
Ceiling
For the ceiling I went with dark oak and spruce slabs setup in an arch. I dropped the dark oak down a half block so that it gives more depth and then ran spruce logs the length of the hall on each side for the side supports.
Balcony and Lookout Area
Above the entry way we added a balcony with an iron bar window that looks out to the gatehouse. I’ll add in some form of a guard station here later as well.
Ceiling Details
For additional detail I connected the front support beams to the rear and then used chains with fencing to build out a chandelier with lanterns. We are still debating on this, it seems like a few too many lanterns in the space but when I remove a few it looks out of balance. I’ll hop into a creative world sometime and try a few different designs.
Keep Entryway
Moving back to the entrance we added the flooring with cobbled deepslate and continued that through the entire hall area. My son gets the credit for most of the floor. He started on it while I was doing the lighting and had it all done when I went to help. Then some light grey carpet leading through the center of the hall into the entry way area. I’m going to try and do a small statue or some armor stands here. With Minecraft block sizes we will have to practice some statues to see what will fit.
Basement Entrance and Tables
For the main area of the hall we added several long tables. My daughter tried several designs and this was her favorite one, plus we got to use more candles! We haven’t really used many in survival builds so it was fun to experiment with different quantities of candles to get the light level right. Over to the side of the hall we added stairs going into the basement area.
