We recently captured 3 Skeleton horses and decided we need a better stable. Our plan had been to get the first Nether road put in before starting on any other Mansion projects but I decided it would be better to have the Skeleton horses in a safe home.
Original Stable
We had already built a simple temporary stable in front of the Mansion that worked great for keeping the horses and was easy to access. We’ve had issues where they randomly got out with a single tall fence, so it has the double tall fence with regular doors for entry. With the pressure plates on the outside of the doors we can ride straight in and then dismount without having to worry about the other horses escaping. While it functions great it is pretty simple and needed an upgrade anyway.
New Horse Stable Location & Design
Since we have been spending most of our time back towards the Taiga we decided to build the new stable there. We will keep the smaller stable at the front for a few extra horses as well. We decided on a barn style with dark oak and spruce that should look great next to the dark oak of the mansion. With the style decided and the location it was time to start building.
Building the Stable
Stables are generally easy to build as long as you have a good idea or plan in your mind. With Jaxson and Savannah helping we got the main structure laid out on the first day with only one minor Enderman interruption.
After a quick lumber run we finished up the structure and put the finishing touches on.
Finishing the Interior of the Stable
For the inside we built in the horse stalls along each wall using double gates for the entry into each. With pressure plates on the outside we simply ride straight into the stall and the gates close behind us. Since horses can’t pass through a single gate we don’t have to worry about them trying to slip out when we enter or exit the stalls.
At the front of the stable I put a chest to hold equipment and some item frames for quickly grabbing items like saddles and leashes. With a fence post we can ride wherever and then leash the horse to the post while we explore.
Loft Area
All lofts need at least some hay, we may do something else up here later on but we really like how it is now.
Here’s some additional pictures of the completed horse stable. Thanks for checking it out and hope it helps with your stable or barn builds.
