Welcome back to our Woodland Mansion Survival series. Today I am going to setup a quick and simple mob farm using the dungeon spawner we found in the ravine. We didn’t have time or the supplies to go down and explore it in the previous post (Exploring the Surrounding Area) so that’s the first step. The ravine is near the Plains/Swamp village near our base so it’s pretty convenient to get to.
Getting Started
First I dug back a little from the edge of the ravine until I could be sure I wouldn’t fall through an overhang. Next I dug the path down to the ledge where I could see the edge of the dungeon blocks. I used ladders to go back up the channel along the wall of the ravine rather than trying to dig steps all the way up.
I had to mine a short way along the ledge to break through the wall of the dungeon and found a Spider Spawner! I had hoped for a skeleton or zombie spawner for the bonemeal or rotten flesh but this will still give us an easy way to build up some levels. Since I hope to find a better spawner (or even double spawner!) later on I’m going to do this one pretty basic.
First Mob Farm Setup
Using some fence and slabs I built a cage along the open wall. With the overhang and solid blocks above the light level stays low enough that the rate is still plenty for what we need. With the gaps in the fence posts Savannah and Jaxson can practice with their bows or come to the gate to fight with their swords.
Fall Protection
With Jaxson being 5 I have to really watch the ledges. Especially when they are over a long drop or lava like this area. I expanded the walkway and added fence blocks for railing along the edges.
I also added fence posts around the top of the ladder entrance because they tend to run right up to it and stopping is sometimes an afterthought 😊.
Completed Mob Farm
Here is our completed spider spawner farm, the first of many for the Minecraft Survival Mansion! Thanks for checking it out.
